One unexpected factor could determine if you'll divorce or not

If you're in it for the long haul, you might want to consider watching costs when planning your wedding. The less expensive, the better your chances are of staying hitched.

According to an Emory University study, stress about wedding related finances can start to lead couples down a rocky road. The wedding ceremony has a large impact on whether you will get divorced or not. The average cost of a wedding is around $30,000 dollars and research shows that a more expensive engagement ring can lead to divorce court. The argument is that young couples may already be in student loan debt and struggling to handle those payments. The long-lasting benefits of a big, fancy wedding are much less tangible than the lasting benefits of a college degree and subsequent earning potential.

The study found that couples whose weddings cost more than $20,000 divorced at a rate roughly 1.6 times higher than couples whose weddings cost between $5,000 and $10,000. The couples with the lowest likelihood of divorce were couples with weddings costing $1,000 or less. However, the study also reports that the higher amount of guests in attendance at a wedding correlates to a lower rate of divorce.

While everything in the wedding industry seems to be expensive, if you're looking for a lavish fairytale wedding you may be better off cutting your costs for a long term happily-ever-after.
