Men’s Wear Prevails at Royal Academy Graduate Show in Antwerp

Upstart designers continue to pour their creativity into men’s wear — and win accolades.

Two of the top three winners at the graduation show for the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp over the weekend devoted themselves to men’s wear collections.

Timo Zündorf, Charlotte de Geyter Pittoors and Emmanuel Antoine Ryngaert were the master students who received the highest marks from the jury and teachers. Zündorf and Ryngaert impressed with their colorful men’s wear creations, while de Geyter Pittoors sent out feminine silhouettes with floral and vegetal motifs.

The graduation shows were held on June 10 and 11 in Park Spoor Noord, an old industrial area reclaimed several years ago and now hosting cultural events, concerts and sports contests. Amid the venue’s old brick walls, graduating students showed a wide range of looks to the jury of fashion professionals, which included designers Olivier Theyskens, Simone Rocha, Tim Coppens and photographer Pierre Debusschere.

A flurry of awards were given at a ceremony on June 12. The BVBA 32 prize created by Anne Chapelle, the Belgian entrepreneur behind Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann, went to Zündorf. Meanwhile, Sanan Gasanov took home the Christine Mathys award from the hands of Dries Van Noten and de Geyter Pittoors received the MoMu award.
