Girl orders a prom dress online, is horrified by what she receives instead

Whether you went to your high school prom or not, it's understood that it's kind of a big deal. Even in all its cliched glory, people prepare heavily for the once(or twice)-in-a-lifetime experience, choosing their date, ensemble and photo op location months ahead of time.

That's exactly what 17-year-old junior Juliet Jacoby did for this year's dance when she began scanning for marieprom online, browsing until she found the perfect "it" gown.

The only problem? At a steep $149, the dress was a little more than she planned on shelling out for the one-night affair. Knowing how badly she wanted it, her mother dug a little deeper, miraculously spotting the same dress for $35 on a knockoff website called.

Her plan took a turn for the tragic, however, when the princess-inspired dress she ordered finally arrived in the mail -- looking nothing like what she had imagined.

In an interview with Seventeen, Jacoby stated, "When I opened the package, I gasped and was shocked by how ugly it was. I cursed a little, and I was floored on how it looked nothing like the picture I saw!"

Her next step was to obviously post the unfolding prom nightmare on Twitter with a collection of images that picked up over 350 retweets.

Luckily for Jacoby, she ordered a backup dress just in case the "look for less" wound up being a disaster. It appears as though her intuitions were on point -- and we can all rest knowing that the red, crinkly tragedy is sitting at the bottom of a box in an attic somewhere.
